Job Title: Nurse Practitioner/Physician Associate

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioner/Physician Associate to join our team at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a supportive and innovative multi-disciplinary team, providing high-quality patient care in the Hepatobiliary (HPB) department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced patient assessment and clinical decision-making in a broad patient group, including complex HPB patients.
  • Work as a nurse practitioner, providing a prompt response to calls from colleagues, prioritizing importance and clinical need.
  • Manage own caseload, including assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and treatment within defined parameters and training.
  • Provide immediate care management of patients, including communication of plans to patients and significant others.
  • Review and refer to appropriate personnel, such as AHPs, resident medical staff, specialist registrars, or critical care outreach teams.
  • Liaise with Patient Services Coordinators as necessary.
  • Communicate within the multidisciplinary team, ward/departmental staff, and/or out-of-hours teams.
  • Provide specialist education and training to departmental nursing staff, nursing, and medical students.
  • Support the HPB team, rounds, clinics, including rapid access clinics.
  • Work alongside allied health professionals as a team, including physician associates and surgical scrub practitioners.
Requirements:
  • Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch)
  • Current NMC registration
  • Degree/Masters level study, or equivalent specialist study/experience, e.g., Nurse Practitioner Qualification or equivalent, Clinical Skills Course
  • Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship if relevant to the role
  • Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project-specific policy context
  • Has understanding/experience of adult/child safeguarding
  • Recent experience of extended clinical practice in a senior role, underpinned by training and assessment, e.g., venepuncture, cannulation skills, and intravenous drug administration
  • Audit/research experience
  • Good IT skills
  • Able to work independently and across disciplines as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Effective organization and time management skills
  • Current driving license if relevant to the role
  • Moving and handling patients and objects in line with Trust guidelines using appropriate aids
Desirable:
  • Master's degree
  • Management experience/qualification
  • Has undertaken and completed Non-medical Independent Nurse Prescribing course
  • Evidence of leading programs/programs of education and/or training
Working Arrangements:

This is a full-time post, and the successful candidate will be expected to work 37 hours and 30 minutes per week.

The salary for this post is £46,148 - £52,809 per annum, depending on experience.
