As a key member of our central tax team, you will serve as the UK focal point for oil and gas industry businesses.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Providing tax guidance and technical expertise to support business growth and compliance.
- Offering commercial tax advice on Value-Added Tax (VAT) and Customs duty to ensure optimal business outcomes.
- Overseeing tax matters across the UK, considering the unique cultures and priorities of our separately managed divisions.
**Key Skills and Qualifications:**
- Professional certifications in accounting and/or tax advisory.
- Relevant post-qualification tax experience.
- Strong skills in managing, coaching, and mentoring team members.
- Flexible and adaptable to change, with a keen interest in continuous improvement.
**Key Activities:**
- Cultivate Strong Stakeholder Relationships: Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and implement improvements in tax systems, processes, and structures.
- Proactive Tax Advisory: Offer commercial tax advice to oil and gas industry businesses by reviewing and analyzing proposed transactions before commitments are made.
- M&A Transaction Support: Provide tax advice for M&A transactions, working with business development, legal, finance, and other teams to manage organizational risk.
- Legislation Monitoring and Representation: Keep abreast of changes in tax legislation, propose value-adding representations, and ensure the business is prepared for legislative changes.
- Coaching and Mentoring: Support and mentor Finance and Tax team members to develop their technical and interpersonal skills, aiding in team succession planning.
- Tax Negotiations: Negotiate with tax authorities on tax issues and audits to resolve queries satisfactorily.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Build relationships with Head Office tax colleagues and liaise on the tax implications of business transactions to ensure a unified understanding of tax environments, opportunities, and challenges.
- Tax Training: Raise business awareness of tax issues through basic tax training and provide targeted training for tax department staff on oil and gas industry taxation and new tax developments.
- Technical Guidance and Support: Offer technical guidance to colleagues in the Tax Department and other support functions on tax matters to achieve optimal business outcomes.
- Forum Participation: Represent the oil and gas industry at tax forum meetings and relay relevant issues to commercial managers in appropriate divisions.
