Engineering Projects Manager (known internally as Central Engineering Projects Manager)

Home based - Time will be split between our Ashby de la Zouch and Teesside sites.

Role Overview

  • Contribute to the success of the organization by ensuring that all plant, equipment, site services, land, and buildings meet the required standards for food production.
  • Actively engage as a member of the Central Engineering Team to achieve internal customer satisfaction, maintain Health and Safety standards, ensure compliance, uphold technical standards, manage capital budgets, meet performance targets, and drive manufacturing excellence.
  • Capable of delivering a comprehensive range of capital projects within a food manufacturing context, from initial concept through to full handover, utilizing Intersnack Work Systems and the Initiative Management Pillar.
  • Oversee CAPEX expenditures effectively.
  • Supervise and monitor the execution of capital projects, collaborating with site teams, manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion. Implement a project framework that encompasses inception, planning, briefings, execution, post-implementation reviews, and success audits.
  • Focus on Building and Civil works, managing various new builds and extensions across UK sites with budgets ranging from £100k to £30,000,000.
  • Oversee all internal fit-out and facility requirements for UK locations.
  • Collaborate with the KP Legal team to ensure contracts and warranties are appropriately established and suitable for their intended purposes.
  • Ensure adherence to company Health and Safety, Environment, Hygiene, and Communication policies by all engineering personnel, emphasizing safe working practices.
  • Confirm that all necessary testing of plant, equipment, and machinery complies with statutory regulations for all new equipment related to CAPEX.
  • Ensure that both contractors and direct labor adhere to safe systems of work, risk assessments, and method statements/SOPs.
  • Ensure that company rules, grievance, and disciplinary procedures are applied consistently, liaising with HR for necessary actions when appropriate.
  • Foster effective teamwork, particularly in integrating with other functions, promoting a unified approach.
  • Communicate with factory management teams to ensure contractor activities are well understood and briefed to the teams through project managers, facilitating transparent communication.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with company standards and statutory regulations within your area of control.
  • Maintain safe working practices in relation to Health, Safety, Environment, and Housekeeping, promptly addressing any hazards or unsafe practices.
  • Conduct critical safety management processes, including:
    • Accident, incident, and near-miss investigations and follow-up actions
    • Risk Assessment processes
    • Safe Systems of Work and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Provide guidance and support to Manufacturing, Technical, and other departments.
  • Lead by example to cultivate and sustain a behavioral safety culture.

  • Experience in food manufacturing/production environments and/or FMCG is essential.
  • Experience in Project and Maintenance Engineering.
  • Awareness of product integrity in a live food factory.
  • Project Engineering and Management experience.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems.
  • Understanding of project management tools.
  • Experience in Cost Centre Management, Budgeting, and Forecasting.
  • Awareness of the Capital Expenditure process.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes.
  • Detailed understanding of legislative requirements and responsibilities related to Engineering and Food Safety.
