Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Acute Stroke service at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner, you will play a key role in working within the hyper acute emergency stroke pathway, providing clinical leadership for a team of stroke practitioners and working across the 4 pillars of advanced practice.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide expert assessment skills for patients presenting to the Emergency Department with a suspected acute stroke.
  • Manage hyper acute stroke pathways and access to reperfusion interventions such as intravenous thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy.
  • Practice both independently and in partnership with the multidisciplinary team under the clinical supervision delegated by a consultant and/or Specialist Registrar.
  • Undertake advanced clinical assessment of the patient, analysing complex clinical signs, findings from physical examination, patient history, and investigation results to diagnose stroke/ non stroke medical/surgical conditions.
  • Interpret clinical results and act on findings, initiating treatments accordingly.
  • Manage own autonomous caseload of patients through TIA clinic and work on a 1 in 3 weekend TIA rota for high risk patients.
  • Take an active role in educating and developing members of the multidisciplinary team through formal and informal teaching sessions.

Requirements
  • Experience working within acute stroke/ emergency medicine.
  • Formal stroke education.
  • Experience of being part of a service evaluation/ improvement.
