Role Overview:
As a Mass Properties Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in managing mass property data for advanced submarine programs. Your expertise will ensure effective weight and centroid control, contributing to the success of multi-billion-pound projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gather and analyze mass property data for various systems and equipment to ensure precise weight and centroid management.
- Assist the Mass Properties Lead in compiling comprehensive weight and centroid reports for presentation to senior leadership.
- Work closely with design engineers to accurately assess mass, centroid, and design readiness of both mechanical and electronic systems.
- Maintain an extensive database of mass properties for all components.
- Contribute to and spearhead initiatives aimed at weight reduction, while tracking weight-related risks and opportunities across disciplines.
- Examine CAD models to derive estimates for mass properties, including associated uncertainties.
- Employ statistical methods to present a holistic view of weight risks and opportunities to senior management and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
Essential:
- Degree in a STEM field or substantial relevant experience.
- Professional engineering status (CEng/IEng) or a clear pathway to obtain it.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with large, intricate electrical or mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in data analysis, including interpretation, visualization, and presentation.
- Familiarity with CAD software and related programs.
