SUMMARY OF POSITION

Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Global School is in search of adjunct faculty to provide guidance to project teams as part of WPI's renowned Global Projects Program. Successful candidates will engage in a two-month, destination-specific role, completed full-time at a project center. Project center locations encompass both international and domestic sites. This onsite role also necessitates part-time advising in the two months leading up to departure (conducted on-campus or remotely) along with mandatory participation in advisor training sessions.

These faculty roles are established to maintain a pool of qualified applicants for the program. Positions will be filled based on necessity, with varying start dates depending on the project center.

Qualified candidates will be contacted by the program. Applications will remain in the pool until the posting concludes. If candidates wish to be considered for positions beyond that timeframe, they must reapply.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Advisors will collaborate with students undertaking the Interactive Qualifying Project (IQP) at WPI's project center locations worldwide. The IQP is a distinctive component of the WPI Plan and represents WPI's signature project-based curriculum. Unlike traditional academic courses, this nine-credit-hour requirement involves students working in teams, often with peers outside their major, to address issues that connect science, engineering, and technology to societal needs.

Advisors are responsible for guiding students throughout their project journey while also providing support onsite. Responsibilities include leading onsite orientations, addressing emergencies, and assisting project teams in resolving group dynamics, sponsor relationships, or other challenges that may arise. These demanding roles require a high degree of flexibility, self-motivation, and the ability to thrive under challenging conditions while efficiently completing tasks in a dynamic environment.

An ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in a relevant field, along with practical experience and a successful track record in undergraduate or graduate teaching. Experience living or working internationally is also highly valued.
