We are seeking a Technical Coordinator to become a vital part of our dedicated team at Tarmac Llanwern. This position is conveniently located and accessible from various regions.

Key Responsibilities

As a Technical Coordinator, you will report directly to the Senior Technical Manager and oversee a team of two technicians within a UKAS accredited laboratory. Your primary focus will be on the testing and certification of asphalt produced by Tarmac Contracting. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with the commercial and operational teams to review specifications and design proposals that align with our National Contracting strategy.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a team of 2 Technicians
  • Overseeing the UKAS materials testing laboratory
  • Ensuring compliance with UKAS accreditation and standards
  • Advising on quality standards and addressing any compromises
  • Coordinating sub-contract site testing services and reporting
  • Promoting a proactive approach to material quality and workmanship
  • Providing technical support to mobile plants producing asphalt and concrete
  • Investigating material and workmanship complaints
  • Offering technical solutions to clients on major projects

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the Technical Coordinator position will have extensive knowledge of asphalt performance and testing. Candidates should possess experience as a site or laboratory materials technician and demonstrate:

  • A strong understanding of civil engineering materials and testing
  • Familiarity with UKAS compliance and relevant standards
  • Knowledge of asphalt operations and techniques
  • Experience in compiling reports for stakeholders
  • Confidence in liaising with various stakeholders
  • Ability to provide solutions based on material selection
  • Proficient IT skills
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • Understanding of Health and Safety policies
  • A relevant degree is advantageous
