Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Project Lead Structural Engineer to join our team at Laing O'Rourke. As a key member of our Temporary Works Design Office, you will be responsible for the production of drawings, calculations, and specifications for temporary and permanent works schemes. You will also provide buildability, construction methodology, and value engineering advice for live projects and tenders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Engineering:
- Produce high-quality designs, calculations, and specifications for temporary and permanent works schemes.
- Provide buildability, construction methodology, and value engineering advice for live projects and tenders.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure designs meet business requirements.
- Team Management:
- Lead a team of junior engineers within the Temporary Works Design Office.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance team skills and knowledge.
- Monitor team performance and provide feedback to improve overall team efficiency.
- Quality Assurance and Information Management:
- Ensure compliance with quality procedures, including checking and approval of drawings and calculations.
- Implement document control and filing procedures to maintain accurate records.
- Assist in the development and implementation of quality procedures to improve overall team performance.
- Commercial and Contractual:
- Manage commercial and contractual aspects of projects, including budgeting and cost control.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve commercial and contractual performance.
- Safety and Risk Management:
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant health and safety legislation and company policies.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with projects, including construction risks and residual risks.

Requirements:
- Professional qualification in structural engineering (e.g., CEng, MICE, MIStructE).
- Experience in temporary works design and engineering.
- Strong technical background in structural materials, including steelwork, reinforced concrete, and timber.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
