About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Gardener to join our team at Mount Stewart, a world-renowned garden in the ownership of the National Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and caring for the garden, leading a team of staff and volunteers, and ensuring the highest standards of horticulture and visitor experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of staff and volunteers to achieve garden objectives
  • Develop and implement garden management plans, including budgeting and resource allocation
  • Ensure the highest standards of horticulture, including plant care, pruning, and maintenance
  • Provide excellent customer service and ensure a positive visitor experience
  • Collaborate with other teams to achieve cross-functional goals and objectives
Requirements
  • Significant practical experience in horticulture, supported by relevant qualifications
  • Sound and extensive plant knowledge and plant husbandry skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of conservation of historic landscapes and ability to work with key management documents
  • Great leadership skills with experience of managing and supporting teams
  • Good communication skills, enabling positive relationships to be built and maintained externally and internally
