About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Playworker to join our team at Wokingham Borough Council. As a Playworker, you will be responsible for delivering a fun, caring, and engaging environment for children between the ages of 5 and 13 with Special Educational Needs (SEND).

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver 1:1 support and assist with the organisation of a range of appropriate and fun leisure activities for children with SEND.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for children to explore, grow, and have fun.
  • Work effectively under pressure in a busy, diverse, and demanding environment.
  • Collaborate with the HAF Programme Manager, SEND Project Co-ordinator, and SEND site lead to ensure the smooth running of the service.
Essential Qualities
  • Nurturing, enthusiastic, reliable, and motivated to support children and young people to thrive.
  • Ability to engage and encourage children and young people to access activities.
  • Willingness to participate in all aspects of providing person-centred care to young people.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to deliver delegated responsibilities.
  • Tact, diplomacy, confidentiality, and sensitivity.
Desirable Qualities
  • Knowledge of working with children and young people and/or people with learning difficulties/disabilities.
  • Awareness of non-speaking communication techniques.
  • Ability to work with children who may display dysregulated behaviour or have health needs.
  • Understanding of equal opportunities.
