Principal Engineer - Identity Services

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our Identity Services team at NatWest Group. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and engineering software solutions that meet the needs of our customers and stakeholders.

Your primary objective will be to create innovative solutions to existing and new challenges, leveraging your expertise in software development, architecture, and engineering. You will work closely with architects to define major components of our business-wide target architecture and roadmap, ensuring that our technology designs are customer-centric, high-performance, secure, and robust.

As a Principal Engineer, you will lead complex and technically challenging assignments, coordinating multiple feature teams to ensure that their technical journeys support the realization of our targets and deliver the values of our relevant metrics. You will also be responsible for defining, creating, and providing oversight and governance of engineering and design solutions, with a focus on end-to-end automation, simplification, resilience, security, performance, scalability, and reusability.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and engineering complex software, scripts, and tools to enable the delivery of bank platforms, applications, and services
  • Working with multiple platform or feature teams to design and engineer software solutions that meet business and technical requirements
  • Defining and developing architecture models and roadmaps of application and software components to meet business and technical requirements
  • Influencing the development of strategies and architecture at domain and enterprise levels, identifying transformational opportunities for the business and technology areas

We are looking for someone with significant experience in software engineering, software or database design and architecture, as well as experience of developing software within a DevOps and Agile framework. You will also need a strong background in the Identity and Access Management (IAM) domain, with deep understanding of biometrics authentication, identity wallets, identity verification and assurance, authorisation, identity federation, and identity management concepts, approaches, protocols, and standards.

Additionally, you will need extensive experience in designing, implementing, and operating IAM solutions using COTS products such as Ping Identity, Okta, or Transmit, as well as broad implementation knowledge of IAM controls and best practices in the industry across cyber security, fraud, and frameworks. A strong background in leading software development teams in a matrix structure, introducing and executing technical strategies, such as cloud migration to public cloud (AWS) or private cloud (OpenShift) or SaaS, Agile transformation, DevOps, and DevSecOps best practices is also essential.
