As a Consultant in our Pensions Actuarial Department, you can expect to:

  • Engage with a variety of clients, including both trustee and corporate, across different scheme types and sizes.
  • Participate in client meetings alongside the client partner.
  • Occasionally present technical topics during client discussions.
  • Serve as a primary contact for clients on a daily basis, utilizing both phone and email communication.
  • Oversee a small team of actuarial professionals to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery of client projects.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior actuarial staff as needed.
  • Lead essential actuarial valuation tasks for funding assessments, solvency evaluations, and buy-in analyses.
  • Draft advisory documents, either independently or using established templates, ensuring they meet high standards for distribution.
  • Review draft trust deeds, rules, and member communications.
  • Evaluate individual member calculations, including transfers, early retirements, and benefit augmentations.
  • Develop calculation factors for various pension-related scenarios and specify benefit calculations for pension administrators.
  • Compose member announcements and provide guidance on member communications.
  • Conduct calculations for disclosure in financial statements (under IAS19 and/or US GAAP).
  • Estimate Pension Protection Fund levies and prepare Actuarial Certificates for Deficit Reduction Contributions.
  • Prepare cash flow analyses for asset-liability modeling.
  • Continuously monitor pension scheme funding levels, potentially contributing to dynamic investment strategies.
  • Proactively keep clients informed about technical advancements and anticipate their needs, while updating the client partner on progress.
  • Collaborate with other advisors, both internal and external, to ensure effective advice delivery.
  • Assist in responding to requests for proposals for new business and may participate in business presentations.

Essential Skills and Personal Attributes:

  • Near qualification as FIA / FFA or up to 4 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Thorough understanding of all technical aspects of UK pensions.
  • Experience supervising junior actuarial staff.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines.
