About the Role

National Oceanography Centre, Southampton is seeking a highly skilled researcher to join our team in developing novel environmental monitoring capabilities for sustained long-term low-cost tracking of ocean health.

The successful candidate will be responsible for processing, analysing, and interpreting data from marine sensors using the Passive Acoustic Noise Interferometry (PANI) construct, with a view to discerning the distribution of physical parameters through the water column.

This role requires a PhD degree in ocean acoustics, applied physics, physical oceanography, seismology, or a closely related discipline, with experience in processing large geophysical datasets and/or numerical modelling of physical phenomena.

About You

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced researcher who is passionate about advancing our understanding of the ocean and its role in the Earth's climate system.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ocean acoustics, numerical modelling, and data analysis, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Location

This position will be based in Southampton, with the opportunity to work from home up to 2 days per week as part of our hybrid working approach.
