Job Title: 1:1 Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team at a remarkable special educational needs school in Exeter. As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting a young boy in year 6 throughout his education, providing exceptional education and care for boys with social, emotional and mental health needs.

About the Role:

This role is based at a small, all-boys school, where you will be working closely with a student who requires educational support and often gets overstimulated/overwhelmed. You will be responsible for recognising this and providing appropriate breaks and interventions to allow the student to thrive. As well as academic support, you will also focus on supporting the emotional wellbeing of students, not just the student you are allocated to.

The young people you'll work with may have experienced trauma, have ADHD, autism, or other complex needs, making resilience a crucial quality for this role. You will be working Monday to Friday, term time only.

Key Qualities:
  • Resilient: You must have the strength and determination to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively
  • Relational approach: Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support their development
  • Excellent behaviour management: Maintain a positive and controlled classroom environment
  • Good work ethic: Be prepared to engage fully with the students, supervising them through the day, including lunch
  • Sense of humour: A light-hearted approach can often help in building rapport and easing difficult moments
  • Boundaries: Set and maintain clear, consistent boundaries with students
  • Adaptability: Be ready to adjust to changes at short notice and handle unexpected situations with ease
What We Offer:

Our school is committed to supporting the wellbeing of all staff. You'll receive full training and ongoing support, including daily safeguarding meetings and access to counselling services. You'll be part of a close-knit, friendly, and supportive team that values collaboration and mutual support.

Previous experience in education is desirable. A background in care or support settings can provide a strong foundation for success in this role.

If you have the resilience, dedication, and passion to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people with SEMH needs, we strongly encourage you to apply.

Working with Long-term Teachers:

We are an independent agency working with Nurseries, Primary, Secondary and Special Schools. Our aim is to create a genuine, transparent and straightforward service to help candidates secure their next role.

Your dedicated consultant will invest time to understand your experience, skill-set and what your ideal role looks like. You will have frequent updates with your progress through compliance, applications for specific roles as well as receiving additional information on roles which we feel may be of interest to you.

We are proud members of the REC and we have the highest standard of compliance. Working with us means you will get the very best support and guidance through the clearance process from your own specific point of contact from our in-house compliance team.

In addition, you will receive:

  • Guarantee Pay Scheme opportunities
  • Permanent job roles
  • Support and advice during the clearance and onboarding process
  • Working to Agency Workers Regulations
  • Interview preparation, advice and support
  • Statutory employment rights, such as; sick pay, holiday pay, maternity and paternity pay
