Senior Electrical Engineer Opportunity

Job Type: Permanent or Contract

Location: Birmingham, UK

Salary: £60k - £75k / £65 - £75 phr (Outside IR35)

Kenton Black is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our industry-leading Electrical Engineering team in Birmingham, UK. The successful candidate will work independently on various projects, overseeing the entire design process or assisting as a technical expert on specialized designs.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assess project requirements, break down tasks, and collaborate with Project Managers to determine scope, budget, and staffing.
  2. Develop scope of work for electrical design based on preliminary reviews and client meetings.
  3. Prepare engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems and analyze existing system operations.
  4. Work with code officials and design professionals to address building code interpretations or exceptions.
  5. Assign and review project design team work, monitor progress, and alert Project Managers to scope changes or additional services.
  6. Review contractor payment applications and possess a thorough understanding of the construction process.
  7. Coordinate project document completion within the company and externally with clients and design professionals.
  8. Prepare or review construction budgets based on project experience and scope.
  9. Promote company design and production standards and participate in their development.
  10. Assist in the education and development of design staff and serve as a resource for design questions.
  11. Utilize computer-assisted engineering and design software to prepare engineering and design documents.
  12. Create specialized drawings, such as electrical riser diagrams.
  13. Provide drawings for own designs and produce sketches for incorporation into drawings by drafters.
  14. Research design options and document findings for Project Designers/Engineers.
  15. Ensure drawings and designs adhere to company production and design standards.
  16. Special projects as assigned.
Requirements
  1. Minimum 8 years' previous design experience; Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Nutraceutical, or Life Science industry experience is strongly preferred.
  2. Bachelor's of Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  3. Registered Professional Engineer is strongly preferred.
  4. Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
  5. Experience with design of building electrical systems, such as building service, power distribution, generators, lighting, fire alarm, security, and other low-voltage systems is essential.
  6. Strong understanding of the National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, IBC, and other related building codes and standards.
  7. Experience with medium voltage systems, electrical hazardous classified areas, and telecommunications systems is a plus.
