Opportunity Summary

An exciting opportunity exists for a Controls Development Engineer to join the innovative Controls Department.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be tasked with:

  • Creating applications and widgets within the Niagara framework utilizing Java 1.8 and JavaScript.
  • Writing concise Python scripts for efficient data transfer between cloud platforms.
  • Designing new functionalities for system optimizers that leverage AI and ML in control systems.
  • Developing and supporting projects focused on IoT, remote monitoring, and predictive maintenance.
  • Innovating to introduce new features and facilitate their market launch.
  • Enhancing the existing codebase wherever feasible.
  • Assisting the design team as required, while gaining familiarity with control strategies for HVAC applications across various platforms.
  • Contributing to project documentation, including control philosophies and operational descriptions.
  • Participating in internal and external meetings to establish project scopes and ensure proper functionality during commissioning.
  • Understanding the overall system and collaborating with the support team to propose process improvements.
  • Working alongside the Research & Development team to integrate new technologies and features into projects.
  • Mentoring and training new engineers and apprentices.
  • Providing technical assistance to site engineers and clients as necessary.
  • Occasional site visits may be required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience with Java or other object-oriented programming languages.
  • A technical degree or relevant experience in the field.
  • Familiarity with programmable controllers is advantageous but not mandatory, particularly:
  • Experience with Tridium Niagara 4 software and controllers.
  • Ability to comprehend control strategies.
  • Knowledge of HVAC applications and heating/cooling systems is beneficial but not essential.
  • Understanding of IT systems and communication networks.
  • Familiarity with BMS/DCIM and common communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, TCP/IP) is a plus.
  • A logical and methodical approach to problem-solving, demonstrating initiative.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A collaborative team player.
