Shrewsbury, Shropshire, United Kingdom OCS Group Full time

Overview & Objective of the Position

Conducting thorough patrols of retail environments, service zones, and communal spaces. Providing guidance to tenants regarding operational protocols; de-escalating situations and averting incidents through the application of 'minimal enforcement'; upholding fire safety, health regulations, and securing the facility. Responsibilities will also encompass control room oversight. During your duties, you will assist the public and support mobility needs, administering First Aid if certified, while adhering to 'customer care' practices consistently. All tasks must align with the OCS Group Health and Safety policy. Attention to personal grooming and hygiene is essential at all times. It is imperative to ensure that company standards and policies are consistently upheld.

You will be engaged in a structured shift pattern of 5 days on and 3 days off, from 06:00 to 21:00, totaling 35.5 hours weekly, on a permanent, full-time basis.

Key Responsibilities

Commence shifts punctually in complete uniform. Maintain a clean, professional appearance consistently. Ensure effective communication of shift changes to the oncoming supervisor, including the transfer of shift keys, devices, confirmation of staff present, contractors on-site, and a summary of incidents from the previous shift. Acquire a comprehensive understanding of fire alarm protocols. Act as an evacuation marshal during major incidents. Be knowledgeable about the locations of all utility rooms, service corridors, and elevators, both by name and position. Assist tenants as needed during incidents, either in person or via surveillance. Support law enforcement presence on-site, whether in person, through surveillance, or via statements. Understand the responsibilities and authority as a member of the security team and recognize when to defer to police directives. Manage the de-escalation of incidents and disturbances within the retail environment. Provide first aid when necessary (only applicable to certified first aiders). Ensure that security personnel not trained in first aid are aware of the designated first aider on duty. Oversee control room operations, including responding to inquiries, monitoring surveillance systems (CCTV licensed personnel only), radio communications, contractor permissions, log maintenance, and Building Management Systems. Fulfill on-call responsibilities as scheduled through a rota system, shared equitably among trained staff. Familiarize yourself with in-house radio communication and call signs. Assess daily operational needs by following on-site information handover procedures. Utilize patrol monitoring systems to aid in accident and incident management and prevention. During night shifts, maintain required check calls as necessary. Follow through on any managerial directives at all times. Ensure all tasks are executed safely, thoroughly, and in compliance with health and safety legislation, OCS Group policies, risk assessments, and method statements. Uphold confidentiality regarding all client and staff information. Report any maintenance needs or replacement requirements to the appropriate personnel and feel comfortable escalating issues to understand repair timelines. Keep your workspace organized and ensure tools and equipment are securely stored. Be well-versed in the care standards regulations relevant to your role. Consistently adhere to managerial instructions.
