About the RoleAWE Plc is seeking a highly skilled Atmospheric Dispersion Scientist to join our team in the Systems Assessment Group (SAG). As a key member of the Radiological Assessment Team (RAT), you will play a crucial role in providing mission effectiveness and weapon effects assessments to AWE and our government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and participate in the research and development of tools to predict hazards associated with atmospheric releases of radiological material.
- Run and develop atmospheric dispersion models, conduct consequence assessments, and participate in experimental trials.
- Collaborate with overseas organisations, conduct research and modelling to determine source term parameters, and plan and deliver technical assessments.
- Engage with technical communities across AWE, contribute to interactions with international partners and external stakeholders, and provide innovative solutions to complex problems.
- PhD in physics, maths, computer science, or an equivalent STEM-based discipline, or relevant post-graduate experience.
- Experience in code development for scientific programming, Python, and/or MatLab.
- Methodical approach to technical research and conducting assessments, ability to communicate clearly and interpret, analyse, and present data.
- Specialism in nuclear physics, atmospheric physics, atmospheric dispersion, aerosolisation, meteorology, or computational physics modelling is advantageous.
