Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Veolia Water Technologies UK. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of water processing plants.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage workloads to achieve design deliverables and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Liaise with clients and internal design engineers to integrate mechanical elements into overall plant design.
  • Generate requirements for equipment or services to be purchased and define key requirements through equipment specification.
  • Work with CAD designers and other design engineers to create and evolve P&ID, General Arrangement, and detailed drawings to define plant design.
  • Develop piping and equipment layouts and prepare and maintain schedules that define plant design.
  • Contribute to the HAZOP process and communicate with site managers and commissioning managers during relevant project stages.
  • Evaluate quotations and develop them to a point of technical compliance.
  • Review supply-chain design documentation and integrate it into the wider plant design.
  • Undertake Design Risk Assessment and capture the outcome.
Requirements:
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated to drive mechanical design processes to meet required project deliverables.
  • Formal education in Mechanical Engineering (Apprenticeship, HNC/HND or BEng/MEng Degree) combined with a proven track record of 7+ years of experience within the municipal or industrial wastewater sectors.
  • Knowledge and experience of equipment and technologies used commonly within the water treatment industry.
  • Strong supervisory and liaison skills between key technical stakeholders and customers.
  • Able to visit customers onsite to assist with performance issues and commissioning.
  • Strong knowledge of steel fabrication techniques, standards, and procedures.
  • Capable of specifying and coordinating work allocated to local teams and remotely between globally extended teams.
  • Capable of performing mechanical calculations such as hydraulic calcs and FEA.
  • Excellent level of experience and competence in interpretation and understanding of PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Proficient in Autodesk mechanical modeling software and data management tools such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and Vault.
  • Able to compose mechanical specifications and equipment schedules.
  • Fluent with software like Word/Google docs, Excel/Google sheets.
  • High attention to detail, creative, and proactive.
  • Articulate, able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Full Driving License.
