This role is designed to assist our Pharmacy technicians and prescription management team, providing essential support on a temporary basis with the potential for extension based on business needs. Key Responsibilities
- Engage in direct communication with patients, addressing medication inquiries and resolving issues with the assistance of our multidisciplinary team.
- Process both repeat and urgent prescription requests efficiently.
- Maintain regular communication with community and hospital pharmacists, as well as medical consultants.
- Contribute to the achievement of the practice's prescribing quality and outcomes framework objectives.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the pharmacy team's operations and the overall practice.
- Adhere to established protocols set forth by the GP Partners while complying with relevant policies.

Job Duties
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to provide comprehensive support.
- Work alongside the Prescriptions team, Pharmacy Technicians, and Clinical Pharmacist as needed.
- Conduct medicines reconciliation following patient discharge and during other transitions of care, implementing changes as appropriate.
- Provide assistance to GPs and other primary healthcare team members.
- Perform reviews to ensure compliance with monitoring and shared care protocols.
- Address patient medication queries through direct communication.
- Manage prescription inquiries within the scope of your expertise.
- Review prescription requests from nursing homes.
- Maintain patient records and perform necessary housekeeping tasks.
- Promote the use of electronic repeat dispensing and online ordering systems.
- Advise clinicians on alternative medications when necessary.
- Assist in addressing patient complaints or significant events.
- Liaise with pharmacy stakeholders, including Medicines Management Teams and community pharmacies.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information in accordance with data protection regulations.
- Support the development and review of medication audits using clinical systems.
- Ensure timely action on major drug alerts and advise on medication changes.
- Process clinical correspondence, seeking guidance from GPs as needed.
- Clarify any unlicensed medication requests with GP Partners.
- Advocate for safe, cost-effective, and evidence-based prescribing practices.
- Engage in ongoing training and development to maintain necessary skills and knowledge.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work systematically.
- Familiarity with current national policies related to medication management.
- Proficient knowledge of prescription terminology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to remain composed under pressure.
- Flexibility to cover for colleagues during busy periods.
- Experience in a hospital, community pharmacy, or GP practice setting.
Desirable
- Experience with clinical software systems.
- Background in GP practice.
Educational Requirements
Essential
- BTEC Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Science and/or NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent qualifications.
