Job Summary

The Specialty Dentist will be responsible for teaching, supervising, and assessing undergraduate students in the Birmingham School of Dental Hygiene and Therapy. The successful candidate will provide pastoral support and care to ensure student welfare.

Main Duties

The role involves supervising educational, pre-clinical, and clinical activities of student Dental Hygienists and Therapists within Birmingham Dental Hospital and Outreach clinics in Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The postholder will ensure treatment protocols, policies, and procedures of Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are followed.

Key Relationships

The postholder will communicate and liaise effectively with a wide range of individuals at all levels, including staff and students in the Birmingham School of Dental Hygiene and Therapy, Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, other NHS organisations, The University of Birmingham, Health Education West Midlands, The School of Dentistry, and the General Public.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the pre-clinical and clinical activity of student Dental Hygienists and Therapists within Birmingham Dental Hospital. They will also be responsible for delegating appropriate clinical tasks to students, supervising the assessment and treatment of patients referred to BSDHT, and preparing and delivering teaching, lectures, and tutorial support to students in line with the outcomes required by the General Dental Council.
