Financial Controller

Base Materials is seeking a highly skilled Financial Controller to lead the day-to-day management of the Finance department. As a key member of the team, you will provide reporting and analysis of financial data, contributing to management decisions and driving business growth.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain accurate accounting records and financial systems, ensuring internal controls are robust and transparent.
- Monitor and report on performance against budgets and forecasts, with a focus on Gross Margin analysis and product/customer performance.
- Lead the reporting for the project-based section of the business, ensuring weekly updates on project progress and revenue/cost reporting.
- Review month-end balance sheet reconciliation and control accounts.
- Oversee the monthly processing of payroll and other employee payments.
- Act as systems administrator for the company's accounting system, providing training and ensuring appropriate access.
- Deliver daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial performance reports, communicating meaningful data to stakeholders.
- Oversee the submission and payment of all payroll tax returns, ensuring compliance and timeliness.
- Ensure the annual audit is conducted efficiently and quickly.
- Project manage ad hoc projects and tasks.
- Undertake people management activities, including performance management, disciplinary, and grievance processes in collaboration with HR.
- Support the ongoing development of team members, identifying training needs and arranging training where appropriate.
- CIMA Advanced Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Similar level role in a manufacturing SME environment.
- Sound working knowledge of Sage 50.
- MS Excel Advanced.
- Hard-working, robust, and diligent with high energy levels.
- Commercial business awareness.
- ACA/ACCA completed or part-qualified.
- Management Qualification.
- System Administrator of Sage 50.
- Experience/knowledge of Power BI reports.
- ERP/MRP Systems.
- Robust and able to handle pressure.
- Strong organisational skills, ability to meet strict deadlines, and reliable.
- Proactive, both as a manager and department leader, ensuring tasks are seen through to completion through the team.
- Positive and upbeat – motivational approach.
- Ability to use own initiative.
- Problem-solving approach with a clear thought process.
- Able to work to a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Extremely effective communicator – ensuring the FD (remote) is kept updated and appropriate information is shared.
- Self-motivated and a steady pair of hands.
- Flexible and a team player able to show the highest levels of collaborative working.
- High degree of confidentiality.
This is a full-time position, based at our facility in Whetstone, Leicester.
