Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Support Technician to become an integral part of our specimen reception team within the Blood Sciences Pathology Department. This role is essential for the effective processing of pathology samples that support various specialties.

As a key member of our pathology laboratories, you will engage in the receipt and preliminary analytical processing of samples, ensuring that they are accurately handled and documented.

Shift Requirements

The position requires flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and nights, to assist our technical staff in maintaining a safe and efficient service.

Professional Expectations

We are looking for a healthcare professional who is adaptable to the evolving landscape of pathology services and can effectively represent our innovative approach.

While training will be provided, familiarity with pathology processes will be considered an advantage.

Responsibilities

- Oversee the receipt, labeling, and data entry of pathology samples into our information systems.

- Identify and address issues related to mislabelled or misplaced specimens, as well as unsuitable samples or procedural failures.

- Assist in the daily management of inventory control and usage.

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE in Maths and English (A-C) or equivalent qualifications.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Proven knowledge of routine and non-routine healthcare science tasks equivalent to an NVQ level 3/diploma.

Desirable

  • Practical experience in a Biomedical Science laboratory.
  • Familiarity with Pathology IT systems.
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems.
  • Relevant experience within the NHS.
