About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Highly Specialist CAMHS Practitioner with considerable Neurodevelopmental CAMHS experience to join our team at the East London NHS Foundation Trust.

Job Summary

This is a community-based post in Newham CAMHS to work with the Neurodevelopmental Team (NDT) and Front Door Team. The post holder will be expected to conduct specialist CAMHS assessments for children and young people with and without neurodevelopmental conditions, such as ADHD, autism and learning disability, who are experiencing mental health difficulties and to offer them evidenced-based clinical interventions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct specialist CAMHS assessments for children and young people with and without neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Offer evidenced-based clinical interventions for children and young people with mental health difficulties.
  • Directly contribute to and support a positive working environment with the Multidisciplinary team.
  • Offer supervision and management to more junior clinical staff (band 7 and below).
  • Collaborate with the Front Door Team and NDT Lead to ensure efficient work flow and agreeing comprehensive care plans.
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Qualification in an appropriate mental health/social welfare profession.
  • Appropriate level of qualification for your profession (BSc, Masters or Doctorate).
  • Registration with your appropriate body (UKCP, NMC, HCP etc.).
  • Evidence of continuous and relevant professional training and development (CPD) in keeping with qualification period.
  • Substantial experience at Band 7 or 8a in delivering specialist neurodevelopment and mental health assessment and treatment interventions for children and young people, and their families, with significant and complex neurodevelopmental problems in CAMHS.
  • Substantial experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency context and with complex networks.
  • Substantial experience of working with children with ADHD, learning disability and/or autism, challenging behaviour, their families and wider networks.
  • Substantial experience of working with a wide variety of patient/client groups across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience/knowledge of working in a multi-ethnic community and of working with interpreters.
  • Substantial experience of providing consultation in the multi-agency context.
  • Substantial experience of risk assessment and risk management.
  • Experience of working with families in severe crisis.
  • Experience of teaching and training.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience of providing supervision.
  • Experience of group work.
Knowledge and Skills

We are looking for a candidate with the following knowledge and skills:

  • Masters or Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology consistent with and relevant to CAMHS practice.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by professional guidelines.
  • Knowledge of and skill in using a wide variety of CAMH theories and interventions and the ability to use these appropriately in relation to client need and work setting.
  • Knowledge of neurodevelopmental conditions, in particular ADHD, autism and learning disability, and skill in using suitable interventions with this client group.
  • Sufficient knowledge of other modalities to engage appropriately with colleagues and their work with clients.
  • Knowledge of child development/mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of current developments in therapy with children and adolescents both with and without neurodevelopmental conditions and mental health problems.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience with diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and families with a high level of deprivation.
