We are seeking an experienced and motivated nurse to join our multidisciplinary team in the Thoracic Clinic at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. As a Staff Nurse - Thoracic Surgery Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to patients attending for pre-assessment appointments, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare patients for consultations with the multidisciplinary team, performing observations, blood tests, ECGs, and swabs.
- Ensure the smooth running of clinics by prioritizing workload and working logically.
- Collaborate with the CNS to provide wound care and chest drain management/removal.
- Assist with procedures and supervise junior staff, delegating tasks as needed.
- Develop and maintain clinical and managerial skills in an outpatient setting.
- Work closely with the care coordinator to ensure patients are booked for follow-up appointments.
- Manage post-procedure complications and ward admissions.
We are looking for a candidate with:
- Registration as a Registered Nurse with the NMC.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Teaching and assessing qualifications (desirable).
- Knowledge of Thoracic Surgery (desirable).
We value candidates with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, who can prioritize and meet deadlines, work effectively as a team member, and assess, plan, implement, and evaluate programs of care. Venepuncture and cannulation skills are also essential.
