Position: Senior Site Manager

Division: UK Construction / Construction North

Location: Regional office is Bradford

Reporting to: Contracts Manager

Construction North is a segment of the UK Construction division, encompassing the Midlands, the North, and Scotland. Projects typically range from £5 million to £50 million, primarily in the Public Sector, with some initiatives in the Private Sector. Areas of focus include Leisure, Justice, Defence, Education, Health, and Commercial offices.

Opportunity Overview

The position is for a Senior Site Manager (second in command to project lead) for a project valued at approximately £23 million in the Bishop Auckland region.

Role Objectives

Oversee, guide, and support the project delivery team (including designers D&B) in all construction activities, ensuring successful and safe execution to meet the expectations of the Client, Stakeholders, and ISG.

  • Take charge of the project timeline and formulate strategies to meet or exceed targets
  • Enhance profit margins and project returns through close collaboration with the project commercial team
  • Ensure adherence to CMS standards
  • Oversee subcontractor management in alignment with time, quality, and budget requirements
  • Comprehend Client needs and deliver on set objectives
  • Foster and maintain key customer relationships, including identifying further work opportunities
  • Engage directly with Clients on project-related matters
  • Keep the line manager informed about significant construction issues and solutions
  • Contribute to tender submissions and participate in interviews
  • Uphold the highest standards of HSQE management and set benchmarks for the project team
  • Manage HSQE induction and reporting processes; report to PM/CM on all project matters
  • Transform tender programs into construction timelines
  • Conduct regular program and progress monitoring, collaborating with the project team throughout the contract duration
  • Supervise the design process and design team in conjunction with the Design Manager
  • Request/manage materials procured by ISG
  • Address supply chain performance issues in collaboration with the project team
  • Provide proactive technical assistance to the project team to resolve challenges while enhancing individual skill sets
  • Prepare and lead monthly internal project reviews
  • Compile and present monthly Client reports
  • Ensure project team compliance with CMS standards
  • Maintain ongoing communication with QS to optimize commercial performance
  • Facilitate end-of-project review meetings and complete project profiles
  • Build relationships with Clients, Stakeholders, and Professional Teams
  • Coordinate with local authorities, building control, HSE, and other external agencies
  • Ensure project documentation is thorough and current
  • Understand and embody ISG's vision and values
  • Promote fairness, inclusion, and respect among colleagues, clients, and suppliers
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven track record in the successful and profitable delivery of new build and/or refurbishment projects
  • Experience in a similar leadership role as Site Manager
  • Familiarity with various construction methods, including Design and Build
  • Experience in managing relationships with clients, consultants, and suppliers that have led to new opportunities
  • Commercial acumen, with the ability to generate profit while maintaining relationships and company values
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and people management skills
  • Robust technical knowledge, including building services
  • Comprehensive understanding of health, safety, and environmental procedures, practices, and legislation
  • Strong customer relationship management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Capability to see the broader picture while paying attention to detail
  • Attitude characterized by enthusiasm and commitment to both personal and project success
  • Proactive, diligent, and willing to anticipate challenges

  • 5 Day Site Management Safety Training Scheme or equivalent
  • 4 Day First Aid Certificate
  • CSCS Card (Site Manager's or similar)
  • ACIOB preferred
