Job Title: Junior Lawyer - Commercial and Contracts Specialist

We are seeking a talented and ambitious Junior Lawyer to join our Commercial and Contracts Team at Somerset County Council. As a Junior Lawyer, you will play a key role in supporting our clients across a wide range of matters related to procurement, contract terms, drafting, and negotiation of contracts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting senior colleagues in drafting and negotiating contracts, including S106 Agreements and planning agreements.
  • Providing comprehensive legal advice on planning matters, including general legal advice and advice on planning enforcement.
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports for Committees, Sub-Committees, and other bodies, ensuring the legal accuracy and practicability of proposals.
  • Developing skills in drafting, negotiation, and interpretation of contract terms.
Requirements:
  • Qualified or nearly qualified as a Solicitor, Legal Executive, or Barrister.
  • Enthusiastic about working as part of a legal team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, especially Word, MS Teams, and Excel, and comfortable using a case management system.
