Company Overview:

Venesky-Brown is seeking a talented AWS Platform Engineer to join a dynamic public sector organization. This role offers an initial contract with the possibility of extension, providing an opportunity to work predominantly remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Product Teams to promote best practices in the development, testing, deployment, and support of AWS-based products.
  • Design, construct, and maintain services that facilitate software delivery within the organization, emphasizing the AWS Platform.
  • Develop and support libraries (typically CDK constructs) and vended services that encapsulate and showcase platform features.
  • Enhance the security of serverless functions.
  • Transition from on-premises products to cloud-based solutions, including Imperva WAF, RabbitMQ, Postgres, ElasticSearch, InfluxDB, and Jenkins.
  • Ensure that the platform adheres to the organization's governance and security standards.
  • Support the organization's core platforms, including containerization, monitoring, and telemetry.
  • Foster an agile culture of continuous delivery and improvement, focusing on the frequent delivery of functional software.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including technical option assessments, to effectively communicate the technical vision to the team and stakeholders.
  • Advocate for beneficial ideas, changes, and designs, influencing peers and key stakeholders as necessary.
  • Assist the Product Manager/Owners and Technical Architect in prioritizing the backlog by providing insights into the architectural roadmap and the technical advantages of proposed changes.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in designing and building platforms on AWS.
  • Proficiency in AWS Serverless technologies.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD methodologies and native AWS CI/CD tools.
  • Ability to define infrastructure and processes as code.
  • Capability to add value throughout the software lifecycle.
  • Experience in applying automated testing within AWS environments and build processes.
  • Skill in introducing efficient processes or concepts within the AWS ecosystem.
  • Collaboration with business units to understand context and focus on delivering value.
  • Experience in Agile delivery models, such as Scrum and Kanban.
  • Knowledge of AWS Shield Advanced, WAFv2, and AWS Firewall Manager.
  • Familiarity with AWS services including Lambda, CDK, S3, CloudFormation, API Gateway, EC2, and AMIs.
  • Experience with GuardDuty, Transit Gateway, AWS Config, Route53, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, CodeArtifact, containerized platforms, OpenShift, Kubernetes, ECS, and Fargate.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Bash, Ansible, and Groovy.
  • Experience with tools like Git, Artifactory, ElasticSearch, OpenSearch, Jenkins, Kibana, and Grafana.
  • Familiarity with operating systems such as AWS Linux, RHEL, and Ubuntu.
  • Experience in AWS Security and Networking.
  • Familiarity with Prisma Cloud.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Experience as a consumer of platform services across all stages of the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience with enterprise-scale software builds and integration.
  • Familiarity with tools that support rapid development, iteration, and delivery.
  • Experience in deploying applications to the cloud using PaaS and SaaS solutions.
