About the Role:

The Legal Aid Finance Manager will be responsible for managing the firm's financial operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance. You will also prepare and present financial reports to the board, senior management, and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with UK financial regulations and Legal Aid Agency (LAA) requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily financial operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the board, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with UK financial regulations and Legal Aid Agency (LAA) requirements
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, monitor expenditures, and prepare financial forecasts
  • Organise and manage annual audits, implementing recommendations to improve financial processes
  • Manage and mentor the finance team, fostering a collaborative and efficient working environment
  • Assist in the development and execution of financial strategies to support the firm's long-term objectives
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional certification (preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management, ideally in a legal aid or non-profit setting
  • Strong knowledge of UK financial regulations and SRA compliance
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Skills:
  • Understanding of legal aid funding structures and requirements
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
