Interim Head of Civil Litigation Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Interim Head of Civil Litigation to join our client, a large public sector organization in the Midlands. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of handling high-value civil litigation matters and managing a team of lawyers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of 20 lawyers across two in-house legal teams, specializing in PI and civil litigation.
  • Handle a varied and high-value caseload, spanning different areas and clients.
  • Provide advice and guidance on civil claims, including injury and loss/property damage claims.
  • Manage debt enforcement work and redesign internal services to bring debt enforcement in-house.
  • Deal with harassment claims under the new Intermediate claims track and defend Judicial Review claims.
  • Handle Data Breach claims and conduct formal Mediation as a form of ADR.
  • General County Court and High Court litigation, including preparing and authorizing Claims, Defences, interim applications/set aside/summary Judgment applications, and cost enforcement.
  • Advice and conduct of Debt Recovery, including for Benefits overpayments, Adult Social Care accommodation charge Debt, property income Debt, Revenues, and informing commercial decisions on prospects for recovery.
  • Handle Property Litigation, including contested lease renewal and forfeiture and possession claims.
  • Deal with adverse Judgments and Bailiffs/High Court Enforcement officers.

Requirements:

  • 6 months + contract
  • Full-time, hybrid working basis
  • Ability to travel to Birmingham weekly
