North Tyneside, United Kingdom Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Senior Rheumatology Consultant to join our dedicated team at North Tyneside General Hospital. This role is integral to the provision of a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary Rheumatology Service across the Trust.

The successful candidate will enhance the existing consultant team, which boasts a variety of special interests. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality Rheumatology care to the communities of North Tyneside and Northumberland, collaborating closely with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust values work-life balance and is open to flexible working arrangements. Candidates who may not be able to commit to full-time hours are encouraged to apply, and discussions regarding job modifications will be held on an individual basis.

Main Responsibilities

The role will involve a flexible timetable designed to meet service demands, with the potential for adjustments as the service evolves.

The full-time work schedule will encompass 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), which will include:

  • Clinical Care
  • Supporting Professional Activities

Weekly commitments will include:

  • Direct Clinical Care (including outpatient clinics, administrative duties, and clinical MDT meetings)
  • Supporting Professional Activities

The Trust is committed to supporting ongoing professional development in line with Royal College requirements, providing both time and financial resources for these activities.

A proposed job plan will be discussed and agreed upon upon commencement of the role.

As a lead/primary appraiser, you will be responsible for medical appraisals within the service, ensuring that all medical staff complete their annual appraisals in accordance with Trust policies and GMC standards.

About Northumbria Healthcare

We operate three major locality hospitals and several smaller community facilities, covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in the UK. We are at the forefront of innovation and quality, having established a state-of-the-art emergency care facility. Our organization prioritizes both staff and patient experiences, offering a supportive work environment in a region known for its clean air, affordable living, vibrant nightlife, and excellent educational institutions.

Job Responsibilities

You will share responsibility for delivering Rheumatology services to the Northumbria population. The role encourages the development of a special interest that complements the department's expertise, while working collaboratively with management and colleagues to maximize service efficiency.

It is essential to manage your workload effectively to meet service contract levels. You will also participate in shared cover arrangements for colleagues during periods of leave, except in cases of prolonged absence where locum support may be required.

Continuing clinical responsibility for your patients is a key aspect of this role, along with facilitating communication among staff with delegated responsibilities for patient care.

Maintaining awareness of organizational priorities and effectively communicating these to colleagues is crucial. You will engage in constructive discussions about organizational matters, demonstrating mutual respect in interactions with management.

Balancing loyalty to the service and the organization is important, as is the ability to anticipate changes in the political landscape and understand the broader health economy and its implications for the Trust.
