This company has established itself over the past 25 years and has seen significant growth, nearly doubling its workforce in recent years. They operate primarily within the medical technology sector, focusing heavily on the US market. Following a successful expansion phase, they have significantly increased their software operations in the UK.

The organization is divided between the UK and US, with all clients and partners located in the US. In this position, you will contribute to a leading-edge product that has been the cornerstone of the business for over two decades. This role is crucial to the company, and you will collaborate with several key personnel.

The Edinburgh office adopts a hybrid working model, requiring two days in the office each week, fostering collaboration among colleagues.

Role Overview

This position is for a Senior Software Engineering Manager overseeing three teams, comprising approximately 20 individuals under your guidance. You will lead these teams, with two Software Managers reporting directly to you, alongside a core team of around seven Engineers (totaling nine direct reports).

Approximately 80-85% of your responsibilities will center on team leadership, mentorship, and stakeholder engagement, while the remaining 15% will involve technical oversight, including system design and architecture discussions. Although this is not a hands-on role, maintaining a close connection to the technologies is essential.

Technical Environment

The technical landscape is predominantly Microsoft-based, with a strong emphasis on Azure cloud solutions. Candidates should possess substantial commercial experience with enterprise-level cloud platforms; while Azure is preferred, familiarity with AWS and GCP is also acceptable. The team's technology stack typically includes: C#, .NET Core, Web API, Azure, and Angular, all within an Agile Scrum framework.

Required Skills

  • Experience in a Software Management or leadership capacity, ideally managing multiple teams or over 10 Engineers.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship experience.
  • Strong background in stakeholder management.
  • A technical foundation, likely stemming from a Software Development background, with the ability to engage in conceptual and theoretical software discussions.
  • Extensive commercial experience with enterprise-level cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Background in .NET development is ideal, though experience with other Object-Oriented languages is also acceptable.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban, etc.).
