Role Overview:

Dovetail and Slate Ltd is in search of a committed and experienced Mechanical Engineering Evaluator to enhance our team. The ideal candidate will take on the responsibility of evaluating the progress and performance of apprentices up to Level 3 standards in Mechanical Engineering. This role entails visiting multiple employer sites to support and assess apprentices, ensuring they fulfill the requirements of their apprenticeship frameworks and standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Conduct regular evaluations of apprentices in the workplace, assessing their skills and knowledge in accordance with Level 3 Mechanical Engineering standards.
    • Provide constructive feedback to apprentices and employers to foster learning and development.
    • Ensure that all evaluations are conducted in compliance with the college and awarding body standards.
  • Support and Guidance:
    • Offer guidance and support to apprentices, assisting them in understanding and meeting the requirements of their apprenticeship program.
    • Develop tailored learning plans to address any skills gaps and monitor apprentice progress.
    • Assist apprentices in preparing for their End Point Assessment (EPA).
  • Employer Engagement:
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with employers to facilitate effective apprenticeships.
    • Liaise with employers to ensure that apprentices are gaining relevant and valuable experience in their roles.
    • Promote the advantages of apprenticeships to potential new employer partners.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of evaluations, feedback, and apprentice progress.
    • Prepare and submit reports as required by college policies and external bodies.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Participate in internal and external quality assurance processes to uphold high standards of evaluation.
    • Contribute to the continuous enhancement of the apprenticeship program.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Essential:
    • Qualified to assess in Further Education (FE) with a minimum of an A1 Assessor Award (or equivalent, such as CAVA or TAQA).
    • Relevant Mechanical Engineering qualifications and industry experience.
    • Strong knowledge of Level 3 Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship standards.
  • Desirable:
    • Teaching qualification such as a PGCE or Cert Ed.
    • Experience in a similar evaluator role within the education sector.
    • Familiarity with End Point Assessment processes.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with apprentices and employers.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
