About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a local Secondary School in Gloucester. As a key member of the school's support staff, you will play a vital role in providing individualized support to a child with Special Educational Needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 care and support to a child with Special Educational Needs, including physical or mental impairment, learning difficulties, ADHD, and ASD.
  • Assist teachers in preparing lesson materials and school equipment to ensure a smooth and effective learning environment.
  • Record and report the child's progress to the teacher, providing valuable insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Help the child stay focused and engaged during class hours, promoting a positive and productive learning experience.
  • Collaborate with teachers to manage student behavior, creating a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Support the child in developing their core skills, such as reading, writing, and mathematics, through targeted interventions and activities.
  • Provide emotional support and care to the child when they are unwell or upset, demonstrating empathy and understanding.
  • Contribute to the creation of a healthy, engaging, and safe learning environment for all children.
Requirements
  • Understanding of Special Educational Needs, including physical or mental impairment, learning difficulties, ADHD, and ASD.
  • Ability to guide and teach young people with SEN, using evidence-based strategies and techniques.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with children, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Inquisitive and curious, with a passion for learning and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Empathetic and understanding, with a strong ability to respond to the needs of children with SEN.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to meeting the needs of the school and its students.
  • Ability to learn and use a range of strategies to manage classroom and individual behavior, promoting a positive and respectful learning environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field.
  • Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or similar.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education or similar.
  • T Level in Education and Early Years or similar.
