London, Greater London, United Kingdom Motability Operations Full time

Position Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Actuary to become a key member of the Insurance Risk division at Motability Operations.
The Actuary will be responsible for delivering essential actuarial insights to support the insurance framework and our reinsurance entity, MO Reinsurance Limited (MORL). This role is designed for a senior actuarial professional who will leverage their extensive expertise to engage in a variety of intricate actuarial tasks. Additionally, the Actuary will play a vital role in enhancing the insurance offerings of the Motability scheme and pinpointing avenues for optimizing the management of insurance-related risks.
Key Responsibilities
This position is situated within the actuarial team of the Insurance Risk sector, part of the Asset Risk division. The team undertakes a diverse array of actuarial functions that support both MO and the insurance aspects of the Motability scheme. Responsibilities include:
  • Conducting quarterly reserving assessments for MORL,
  • Performing biannual pricing evaluations, utilizing burn cost analyses in collaboration with our insurance partners,
  • Executing strategic and commercial evaluations of our risk models and reinsurance strategies,
  • Leading an annual capital modeling initiative,
  • Assessing the risk profile of the scheme,
  • Implementing make-model pricing modifications to inform lease pricing strategies.
This role entails managing a substantial portfolio of motor risk, encompassing over 750,000 vehicles, 1.2 million drivers, and more than £600 million in annual premiums. While not classified as an insurance company, Motability Operations holds a significant position in the UK motor market. The Actuary will represent MO and MORL in discussions with insurance partners, reinsurance brokers, and reinsurers, as well as with actuarial experts and auditors.
Qualifications
This opportunity is ideal for a skilled Actuary who is ready to lead and mentor a compact actuarial team while managing a distinctive motor portfolio. We are looking for candidates who:
  • Operate autonomously and are recognized as the foremost technical authority,
  • Guide others in resolving complex analytical challenges,
  • Collaborate effectively with various departments within MO and with key insurance stakeholders,
  • Manage both internal and external relationships to ensure successful outcomes,
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the team through accountability for commercial results and technical guidance,
  • Exhibit strong communication, mentoring, and leadership abilities,
  • Foster a culture of quality assurance and meticulous review,
  • Actively participate in skills networks and contribute valuable insights.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Qualified (or qualified by experience) Actuary status with a background in General Insurance pricing or reserving. Candidates should have successfully completed the IFOA exams CP1 and CM2 or equivalent, and have utilized a variety of actuarial methodologies in a similar capacity. Experience with a broad range of analytical tools is essential.
Additional relevant experience may include UK motor pricing or reserving, proficiency with ResQ software, and a history of developing actuarial processes and presenting actuarial data and proposals to diverse stakeholders. Preference will be given to candidates who are fully qualified IFOA members.
Benefits
Motability Operations is a unique organization, distinguished by its strong sense of purpose and commercial acumen, dedicated to providing exceptional mobility solutions to over 700,000 customers and their families across the UK.
