Job Overview

MacTaggart Scott is seeking a seasoned Senior Project Manager to lead a portfolio of projects within our Projects Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of project managers and coordinators, ensuring adherence to processes, and driving project success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a portfolio of projects with direct reports, providing guidance and support to ensure project deliverables are met.
  • Mentor and train members of the project team, conducting regular appraisals to ensure team members are equipped to handle project challenges.
  • Ensure team adherence to department and business processes, maintaining a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Project manage allocated projects, ensuring schedules and activities are maintained and communicated to stakeholders.
  • Manage project budgets and forecasts, working closely with the Finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Manage change and contract variations, ensuring that project scope and contractual requirements are met.
  • Risk management, identifying and mitigating potential risks to project success.
  • Scope and contractual requirement management, ensuring that project deliverables meet customer expectations.
  • Manage project reviews, stakeholder engagement, and customer reporting, maintaining strong relationships with customers and stakeholders.
  • Manage customer relationships and communication, ensuring that customer needs are met and exceeded.
  • Support customer visits and meetings, providing a high level of customer service and support.
  • Liaise with other departments and managers within MacTaggart Scott to resolve any conflicts or issues that may impact project schedules, costs, or resources.
  • Provide assistance to project managers and project coordinators in the execution of their projects, supporting customer-facing escalations.
  • Authorise direct report holidays, timesheets, and support recruitment interviews, ensuring that team members are equipped to handle project demands.
  • Support prospects in the bid process, reviewing scope, schedule, and cost to ease handover into the execution phase within the portfolio.
  • Provide estimated project management hours for bid projects, as and when required.
  • Report at contract review and steering groups on project/portfolio progress, providing updates for monthly management reports.
  • Chair meetings in the absence of the Line Manager, ensuring that project-related discussions are effectively managed and actioned.
Requirements
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word packages for report preparation and scheduling.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work unaided and on own initiative.
  • Good negotiation skills, with a commercial awareness that drives project success.
  • Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to persuade and influence people to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources.

The successful candidate must hold or be able to meet the appropriate Security Clearance as required. The security clearance restrictions mean that factors including your nationality, any previous nationalities you have held, and your place of birth may limit those roles you can perform for the organisation.
