About the Role

The Unsworth Group Practice is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect blood samples from patients in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure accurate and legible labeling of all samples to confirm patient identity.
  • Verify patient identification against GP/Nurse request and confirm with patient whenever possible.
  • Dispatch samples to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
  • Conduct health checks for invited patients, including taking blood pressure readings.
  • Visit housebound patients for sample taking, demonstrating flexibility in hours to cover absence of colleagues.

Person Specification

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths.
  • Qualifications/Certificates in venepuncture are essential.

  • Competent in basic duties required for the post.

  • Ability to use own judgment, resourcefulness, and common sense.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities.
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team.

  • Able to use own initiative.
  • Experience of dealing with the public/patients is essential.
