About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our innovative team at AKT II in Cambridge. As a key member of our design-led company, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality structural engineering designs for various projects across different sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead specialist structural engineering design projects, ensuring compliance with design and construction programmes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to produce detailed designs and specifications.
  • Coordinate design and detailing work, ensuring timely completion of projects.
  • Manage internal projects and associated resourcing, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Conduct structural surveys, providing initial advice on potential issues.
  • Prepare detailed design calculations, utilizing 3D software packages and adhering to British Standards and Eurocodes.
  • Interpret client briefs, assisting in preparing designs from scheme to detail.
  • Investigate solutions, exploring options and communicating design ideas through sketches, models, and presentations.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings and specifications for tender purposes.
  • Respond to client requests for information, ensuring timely communication.
  • Attend design team meetings, presenting design ideas and collaborating with clients and other design collaborators.
  • Coordinate design information with engineers from other disciplines.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members, supporting their development.
  • Facilitate and organize meetings and CPD training events, contributing to your own and others' development.
  • Support and participate in AKT II's technical agenda, contributing to the company's growth and success.
Requirements
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of structural design in concrete and steel structures, as well as experience in other structural materials.
  • Show experience of working with Eurocodes and British Standards.
  • Demonstrate a strong analytical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, combined with practical understanding of buildings and construction.
  • Have the ability to design and deliver structural solutions on major and/or complex projects.
  • Be able to work on your own initiative and be proactive.
  • Have a desire to work constructively in a team, finding holistic building design solutions.
  • Have a good understanding of multidisciplinary requirements into coordinated solutions.
  • Be an inquisitive, creative, solution-orientated designer, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Have excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to balance tasks and prioritize to meet strict deadlines.
  • Be computer literate with a good knowledge of design and analysis programmes.
  • Have an exceptional understanding of the CDM Regulations and designers' responsibilities.
Qualifications/Experience
  • Degree in Structural/Civil Engineering.
  • Experienced Chartered Engineer (IStructE or ICE or equivalent), recently Chartered or near-chartered.
  • Demonstrate experience, competency, and flexibility to rise to challenging situations and take on responsibility appropriate to their capability.
  • Have experience in the area of Structural Engineering.
