Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) is a subsidiary of Boeing and employs over 1,200 individuals in the UK.
BDUK is tasked with delivering several significant contracts to our UK Defence clients, including E-7 AEW&C, P-8 A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4 ISTAR Services, and Through Life Support for the Chinook & Apache Fleets, along with Logistic Information Services and Training Services.
This position is for an Engineering Product Quality Specialist to join the Engineering Function at BDUK, specifically supporting the Chinook program.
BDUK currently employs over 1,400 people in the UK and is responsible for several key contracts to our UK defence customers.
The successful candidate will receive training to obtain Material Review Board (MRB) authorization certification for the relevant platform. Responsibilities include conducting root cause analysis, developing resolutions for identified non-conformances (NCRs), and identifying and supporting improvements to processes and procedures.
Additionally, the candidate will document and communicate deviations that may affect design intent or safety, coordinating with the Design organization as necessary to address emergent airworthiness issues.
In this role, the successful candidate will support product repair and overhaul operations by providing procedures, authorized repair guidance, and relevant technical data to address engineering inquiries.
They will apply their knowledge of engineering, maintenance, and design processes to define optimized component recovery techniques, utilizing design definitions, program directives, engineering drawings, schematics, functional tests, or supplier data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize Boeing design engineering principles to investigate technical, operational, and quality challenges, designing both interim and final engineering solutions.
- Apply knowledge of Boeing design and engineering principles to develop solutions for product/process issues throughout production and for technical, operational, and quality challenges that cannot be resolved by the customer.
- Provide assistance and engineering support to identify effective solutions.
- Draft written resolutions for design non-conformances.
- Support initiatives to identify deviations that could impact design intent and safety, as well as product/process enhancements.
- Develop customer correspondence for the continued safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Implement product/process improvements.
- Participate in Material Review Boards and support Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), providing technical input for design and in-service reviews.
- Ensure suppliers and build partners adhere to Boeing standards and processes.
- Participate in on-site disabled product repair teams and accident investigation or support teams.
- Analyze damage repair or structural modifications to determine appropriate jacking and shoring, preventing collateral damage and ensuring a safe work environment.
- Develop non-destructive test procedures, tools, and standards.
- Provide technical solutions to a variety of complex problems.
- Develop solutions that are creative, comprehensive, feasible, and aligned with organizational objectives, processes, and standards.
- Work independently, determining and developing approaches to solutions.
- Receive general direction for work that is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
Qualifications:
- Engineering degree obtained through an accredited course of study. Chartership registered with an appropriate engineering council or the ability to work towards registration.
- Familiarity with Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) Regulatory Articles (RAs) is preferred. Previous experience in helicopter and aircraft fleet maintenance is desirable. Experience with Root Cause Analysis, problem-solving, and improvement projects is also beneficial.
- Experience in assembly integration and testing of components, assemblies, and systems. Experience in Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations and environments. Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Work Authorization:
This position is for a locally hired role in the UK.
Candidates must have current legal authorization to work immediately in the United Kingdom.
