Director of Financial Oversight

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Financial Oversight to lead our Internal Audit team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the work of the team, reporting to the Audit and Risk Management Committees, and carrying out a range of audits in line with agreed procedures and applicable professional standards.
About the RoleThe Director of Financial Oversight will be responsible for:
- Developing and implementing effective internal audit strategies and plans
- Leading and directing the work of the Internal Audit team
- Reporting to the Audit and Risk Management Committees
- Carrying out audits in line with agreed procedures and applicable professional standards
- Identifying and agreeing cost-effective and practical solutions to address any control weaknesses
- Researching and interpreting the implications of professional and sector developments on internal audit
We are looking for a candidate with:
- A fully qualified internal auditor or CCAB qualified accountant with evidence of continuing professional development
- Proven practical experience of internal auditing
- The capacity to work autonomously and on your own initiative to meet deadlines and objectives
- The ability to operate confidently in a complex and changing environment
- The ability to analyse, interpret, and clearly communicate complex issues to academic and professional colleagues
We offer a generous package including hybrid working with a mix of on-site and remote working, onsite parking when attending our Colchester campus, and expenses paid for visits to the University of Suffolk. We also offer a generous holiday entitlement of 28 days, pro rata for part-time staff, plus a further 8 bank holidays and an extra 3 days when closed during the Christmas period.
The University will support Professional Development, utilising the apprenticeship levy where available.
About the Team/SectionThe Internal Audit team is attached to the Finance, Planning and Data Insight Section, which is part of the University's Professional Services. The team's remit covers all areas of work that the University undertakes, whether in academic departments or professional services, and covers all campuses. Within the University of Suffolk, the team is attached to the Finance and Planning Directorate and works closely with the University Secretary who is Secretary to the University's Board.
