Position Overview: The role of a Conflict Resolution Specialist within H M Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is a pivotal technical position that provides comprehensive IT assistance and project execution across a diverse range of IT systems.
Reporting Structure: The successful candidate will report directly to the Infrastructure Manager and will collaborate with various members of the HMRC technology team, delivering first, second, and occasionally third-line support for desktops, servers, and applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement changes in accordance with the established approval protocols.
- Oversee the provision and ongoing maintenance of desktop systems.
- Assist in the design and development of new infrastructure services.
- Work closely with colleagues at different support levels to facilitate troubleshooting and resolution.
Project Involvement: Engage in and support the delivery of IT projects, ensuring effective application deployment, patching, and configuration.
Infrastructure Maintenance: Responsible for the upkeep of IT hardware and server room infrastructure, including cabling and power management.
Equipment Setup: Configure and maintain computer systems, telecommunication devices, printers, and peripherals, providing ongoing support for business systems, network connectivity (LAN, WLAN, and WAN), audio/visual equipment, video conferencing tools, and telephony systems.
Travel Requirements: Regular travel within the UK for meetings and infrastructure tasks will be necessary, with occasional overnight stays.
Flexibility Payment: This position includes a Level 1a Flexibility Payment (FP) along with a tailored FP package of 90 additional hours, compensated monthly with salary.
Additional Hours: Candidates should be prepared to work extra hours, including weekends and outside of standard working days, as well as on public holidays.
Security Clearance: Following a successful security clearance application and probation period, candidates may be required to initiate further vetting processes.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in managing Windows desktops and servers.
- Knowledge of IP address-related network services such as DHCP and DNS.
- Experience with network equipment including routers and switches, along with associated cabling.
- Ability to manage Windows domains using Active Directory.
- Familiarity with additional network services such as NTP, SMTP, and SNMP.
- Understanding of network security measures including Firewalls, VPNs, and ACLs.
- Experience with Linux operating systems.
Qualifications:
- Possession of a full UK driving license.
- ITIL 3 or V4 foundation certification is preferred.
