We are seeking a dedicated ophthalmologist with specialized fellowship training in orbital and oculoplastic surgery. This position is designed for a duration of 12 months, with the potential for a future appointment to a permanent Consultant role within our esteemed institution. Our current team comprises 33 consultants, 2 associate specialists, 13 specialty doctors, and 17 fellows, all working together to address the increasing ophthalmic needs of our diverse patient population.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting specialized orbital and oculoplastic services in a tertiary care environment, including the regional Ophthalmic A&E. A primary focus will be the establishment of Orbital Tumour Services and Grand Rounds in collaboration with allied health professionals. A fellowship in Orbital Surgery and experience in performing independent surgical procedures are essential qualifications.

Job Specifications
Research, Innovation, and Service Improvement
Essential Qualifications:
- Ability to translate research findings into clinical practice.
- Awareness of current developments and challenges within the specialty.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in utilizing information technology within Ophthalmology.
- Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals within the last five years.
- Evidence of original research contributions.
Clinical Experience
Essential Qualifications:
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to the requirements for obtaining CCT in Ophthalmology.
- Capability to independently manage acute ophthalmic emergencies, including periorbital and orbital conditions.
- Proficiency in the care of patients requiring oculoplastic and orbital surgical interventions.
- Completion of a fellowship or equivalent training in oculoplastic and orbital surgery.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in the medical and surgical management of orbital diseases.
- Experience in risk management practices.
Teaching and Training
Essential Qualifications:
- Ability to instruct clinical skills to medical and nursing staff, as well as other healthcare professionals.
- Capability to evaluate the performance of junior doctors and other staff members.
