Ecology and Biodiversity Lead

About the Role

COWI is seeking a highly skilled Ecology and Biodiversity Lead to join our team. As a key member of our sustainability team, you will play a crucial role in shaping our approach to environmental issues and developing innovative solutions to complex problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with our engineers to identify opportunities for biodiversity enhancement and maximize environmental benefits from project inception.
  • Work across multidisciplinary teams to develop technical solutions to complex environmental challenges.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to promote positive biodiversity practice and sustainability.
  • Contribute to the development of COWI's biodiversity strategy and approach to sustainability challenges.
  • Coordinate biodiversity assessments and develop reporting metrics to capture environmental impact.
  • Author and contribute to reports, assessments, and EIAs/ESs, as well as planning applications.
  • Manage sub-contractors for ecological surveys and liaison with project partners and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Membership of a relevant professional organization (e.g. CIEEM).
  • Substantial project-related ecological experience in large multi-disciplinary civil engineering projects.
  • Experience in developing project documentation, such as biodiversity management plans and construction environmental management plans.
  • Flair for creating practical solutions, innovations, and concepts to enhance biodiversity.
  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience with coordination of terrestrial and marine biodiversity surveys and assessments.
  • Considerable experience in preparing biodiversity inputs to the EIA and planning process, underpinned by understanding of UK environmental and planning regulations.
