Job Title: Armed Forces Peer Support Officer

Job Summary:

PAS UK is seeking a highly motivated and empathetic individual to join our team as an Armed Forces Peer Support Officer. As a key member of our team, you will provide vital support and guidance to spinal cord injured individuals within the Armed Forces community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Referral and Support: Respond to referrals from the Armed Forces, NHS Spinal Cord Injury Centres, and other hospital environments to provide support and information to Armed Forces patients and their relatives.
  • Personalized Support: Work with individuals to establish a planned programme of support with agreed targets and conclusion dates, utilizing the resources of PAS UK to offer a comprehensive range of information and support.
  • Training and Education: Deliver in-service training on spinal cord injuries and living with spinal cord injury to appropriate staff, using the resources offered by PAS UK to support such talks.
  • Advocacy and Support: Support individuals in dealing with their local authority, social services, local health care providers, and other relevant organizations to ensure the appropriate level and means of support are being provided.
  • Public Awareness: Publicize the work of PAS UK and the availability of the Armed Forces Peer Service to relevant social services departments, health authorities, consumer organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Record-Keeping and Reporting: Establish and maintain accurate and secure record-keeping, providing regular updates and reports on monthly activity, contacts made, and visits carried out.

Requirements:

  • Empathy and Understanding: A deep understanding of the challenges faced by spinal cord injured individuals and their families.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge and Experience: A strong understanding of the Armed Forces community, spinal cord injuries, and the support services available.
