About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Teaching Assistant to join our specialist school for young people aged 8-19. Our school supports students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language difficulties, and moderate learning difficulties (MLD), many of whom present with challenging behaviors and complex needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Learning: Work closely with students to support their academic progress and personal development, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Tailored Support: Assist in implementing individualized learning plans, tailored to the specific needs of each student.
  • Therapeutic Involvement: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, to support students' emotional and social well-being.
  • Behavioral Management: Help students regulate their behavior through positive reinforcement and specialized techniques, ensuring a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Vocational Support: Facilitate practical learning experiences, such as work placements in retail, horticulture, and other vocational skills areas.
  • Promote Independence: Encourage students to develop life skills, fostering greater independence and confidence.
Ideal Candidate
  • Experience working with children or young people with autism, learning difficulties, and/or complex needs.
  • Knowledge of SEND practices and a commitment to supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience to effectively manage challenging behaviors and create a supportive, inclusive environment.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, is a plus.
  • A background in behavioral management, special education, or therapeutic care will be advantageous.
