The Role

As a Planning Enforcement Officer, your responsibilities will include a variety of planning support activities aimed at conserving and enhancing the natural and built environment.

Your main duty will be to investigate complaints and violations related to the Town and Country Planning Act and associated legislation. You will ensure that any breaches are addressed and brought under the relevant planning regulations.

You will conduct site visits to gather evidence of infringements, monitor compliance with issued notices, and liaise with complainants, neighbors, developers, and other enforcement bodies.

Your tasks will also include drafting enforcement notices, reports, and witness statements, maintaining both physical and digital records of investigations, and assisting in the development of a computerized system for tracking complaints and violations.

Additionally, you will:

Prepare reports on unauthorized developments for the Planning Committee Identify solutions for rectifying breaches and advise property owners accordingly Issue Enforcement Notices and Court Summons Prepare statements for prosecution, enforcement, and appeal cases Represent the Council at Public Inquiries, Magistrates, and Crown Courts Provide guidance to the public on general planning inquiries

About You

To be considered for the role of Planning Enforcement Officer, you will need:

Experience working with public and private entities, resolving complex and potentially contentious issues while conducting consultations and negotiations Proficiency in understanding and interpreting intricate policies and conditions Experience in creating and maintaining accurate records and case histories A valid driving license to access sites in often remote areas
