Job Description

Barrington James is seeking a highly skilled Photonics Layout Engineer to join our team. As a Photonics Layout Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, layout, and optimization of photonic devices, ensuring they meet the stringent requirements of modern fabrication processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of the design and layout of photonic devices using state-of-the-art Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools.
  • Translate design specifications into precise, manufacturable layouts that meet performance and reliability criteria.
  • Leverage your deep understanding of photonic and semiconductor fabrication processes to guide and inform the layout process.
  • Create, import, and manage custom photonic devices within the EDA flow.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and optimization of EDA tools and flows specific to photonic devices.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that layouts meet the overall design goals.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge in Mixed-Signal EDA Tooling, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience with photonics-specific EDA tools.
  • A proven ability to deliver precise and error-free layouts that meet all design and fabrication requirements.
  • Proficiency in layout design, Design Rule Checking (DRC), and Layout Versus Schematic (LVS) flows.
  • Familiarity with Verilog for simulation purposes and schematic design capture.
  • Experience in creating custom layouts and working with GDSII formats.
  • A strong understanding of silicon fabrication processes, with additional experience in photonic-specific processes being highly advantageous.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex design and layout challenges.
