About Us

The Northern Lighthouse Board is a leading maritime organization responsible for the management and maintenance of lighthouses, buoys, and beacons in Scotland and the Isle of Man. With a rich history dating back to 1786, we have provided critical safety services to mariners.

The Role

As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of our lighthouses, buildings, masts, and berths. This includes developing and implementing maintenance and renewal programs, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards, and providing technical guidance to our teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement technical strategies for the maintenance and renewal of our infrastructure
  • Ensure compliance with relevant building standards, conservation, and legislation
  • Provide technical guidance and support to our teams
  • Monitor and implement new technologies to improve our operations
  • Approve designs and quality of civil work

Requirements

  • Chartered Civil Engineer with experience in building standards, conservation, and legislation
  • Significant experience in civil engineering management and achievement
  • Knowledge of historic building conservation, marine structures, and intertidal zone works
  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation, quality, and processes
  • Ability to communicate effectively at a senior management level
