This innovative role within the SWB Health Visiting service will empower you to lead initiatives that ensure high-quality care in infant nutrition and relationship development. Your responsibilities will include providing tailored support to address feeding challenges.

The successful candidate will possess specialized knowledge and extensive experience in this domain, along with the confidence to disseminate expertise among colleagues by coordinating training and strategically collaborating with partners to establish and enhance infant nutrition pathways.

Additionally, you will oversee the application of the NHS Baby Friendly Initiative Standards, enabling staff to assist expectant mothers in understanding the significance of breastfeeding and nurturing relationships for the health and well-being of their infants, as well as promoting positive feeding practices during early childhood.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve:

  • Collaborating with families and partner organizations to increase the number of women who initiate and sustain breastfeeding.
  • Working closely with public health entities to assess community needs and develop coordinated services for families.
  • Leading the infant nutrition team.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of current regulations related to infant feeding practices.
  • Inspiring change and providing expert leadership and support to staff, demonstrating a commitment to best practices in breastfeeding and infant nutrition.
  • Being dedicated to the development and transformation of services.
  • Utilizing evidence-based practices and research.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Extensive experience as a registered nurse.
  • Experience in community settings providing direct breastfeeding support.
  • Proven track record of leading innovations in clinical practice.
  • Leadership and management skills with the ability to oversee a team.
  • Experience in integrating public health breastfeeding priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct audits and respond to findings.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a specialized infant role.
  • Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating breastfeeding training programs.
  • Leadership qualifications.
  • Experience with Baby Friendly Initiatives.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • First Level Registered Nurse/RSCN or Midwife.
  • Evidence of recent professional development.
  • BFI Breastfeeding and Relationship Building or equivalent.
  • Leadership qualification.

Desirable:

  • International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
  • Unicef BFI train-the-trainer certification.
  • Qualified SCPHN (Health Visitor).
  • Nurse prescriber.
  • Master's level education or willingness to pursue further qualifications.
