Design Manager Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Manager to lead our design team at My 1st Years. As a key member of our creative team, you will be responsible for driving the development of commercially viable product ranges across both soft and hard-line categories.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead and motivate a team of designers, driving performance and ensuring they are supported and developed in their roles.
  • Work closely with all departments across the business, providing a confident and solution-based approach and always representing brand and creative.
  • Identify commercial trends and opportunities in the Baby & Kids gifting market.
  • Manage and prioritize all design processes as part of the critical path, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Develop and deliver new product opportunities through innovation and creativity in response to changing business conditions.

  • Have a keen interest in the marketplace, including an awareness of competitors.
  • Manage and develop new and junior members of the team to increase department knowledge and brand handwriting.
  • Support the Creative Director with new business initiatives, as and when required.

Requirements:

  • Self-motivated with a clear 'can do' attitude, who can lead a team unsupervised in an accurate, methodical and organized manner.
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced, exciting and demanding environment.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience designing Baby & Kids products.
  • Extensive market and aspirational gifting knowledge in the Baby & Kids arena.
  • Excellent presentation skills for trend/mood boards that are clear and have creative flair.
  • Excellent freehand drawing and Adobe Suite skills.
  • Accomplished range-building skills, challenging and balancing newness and commerciality.
  • The understanding and experience of detailed specification documents for accurate briefing to manufacturers.
  • Liaising with key buying, merchandising and technical teams to realize briefs.
  • Commercially astute to ensure that creative designs hit the wider business goals.
  • An understanding of how to design products that will look great online.
  • Able to maintain a high level of creativity and quality execution when working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Wide understanding of customer styles, with the ability to challenge and stretch product opportunities.
  • Experience in working with licence partners would be advantageous, but not essential.
  • Good communication skills, clear, concise and dynamic.
  • Willing to travel, as required.
